The Holiness of Stillness

Isaiah 9:6

For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders.

NRSV

Holy moments rarely arrive with noise. December 24 sits in a kind of sacred pause. The world prepares to speak loudly, to celebrate, to mark meaning with activity. Scripture points us somewhere quieter. Authority rests upon His shoulders. Not strain. Not effort. Not performance. Rest. The birth of Jesus did not announce itself through power displays or urgency. It entered the world through stillness. Through obscurity. Through trust. God chose quiet obedience and hidden faithfulness as the doorway for salvation. That choice tells us something important about how God works. Holy stillness is not emptiness. It is fullness without motion. It is the confidence that nothing needs to be forced. That what is coming does not need your help to arrive. Stillness here is reverence. It is recognition that God is active even when you are not. This day invites you to honor the pause before renewal. Not to rush toward celebration or meaning, but to sit with the mystery of God choosing nearness over spectacle. Jesus entered the world without urgency. Authority came wrapped in vulnerability. Power arrived through trust. As the year nears its end, this stillness matters. You do not need to interpret the year tonight. You do not need to prepare for what is next. You are invited simply to be present with what is holy and given. Let this day be quiet if it can be. Let stillness hold its place. God has always done His deepest work in moments like this.

Ponder This

What happens inside me when I allow holiness to be quiet rather than dramatic?

Today's Practice

Create a brief moment of intentional stillness today and resist the urge to fill it.

Speak This Truth

I honor holy stillness. God's authority rests securely, and I rest with Him.
