Leading Without Closing Yourself Off

Proverbs 9:9

Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still.

NIV

Authority does not remove the need to listen.

As responsibility increases, there can be an unspoken pressure to appear certain. You may feel tempted to guard your openness, to rely only on what you already know, or to avoid correction for fear of looking unsure. Scripture points in the opposite direction. Wisdom remains open.

Teachability is not weakness. It is one of the clearest signs of maturity. A wise person does not stop learning when influence grows. They become more attentive, more discerning, more willing to receive insight from unexpected places.

Jesus led with authority, yet He remained responsive. He listened. He asked questions. He welcomed dialogue. His confidence did not depend on having all the answers in advance. It rested in alignment with the Father.

Staying teachable while leading allows innovation to remain fresh and grounded. It keeps prosperity from becoming stagnant. It protects you from repeating patterns simply because they once worked.

Teachability also creates trust. People sense when a leader is closed and defensive. They also sense when a leader is secure enough to listen, learn, and adjust.

This posture does not mean you abandon conviction. It means you remain open to refinement. You recognize that growth is ongoing, and that wisdom deepens through humility.

Today invites you to remain curious. Not about everything, but about what matters. You are allowed to lead and still learn.

Where might I need to remain open to instruction even as responsibility increases?
