Running the Race
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

The race is marked out for us, not by us. Each runner has a specific course. Comparison with other runners is futile; their race is not yours. But notice the instructions: throw off what hinders. Not just obvious sin but everything that slows you down. Good things can become hindering things when they steal energy from better things. The cloud of witnesses cheers you on.
